Job summary

The BESS Engineer II is responsible for design, development, and implementation of BESS projects with focus on performance, reliability, and safety.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• At least 2 years of electrical engineering experience focused on BESS, renewables, or power systems.
• Knowledge of BESS components (lithium-ion batteries, inverters, BMS, grid interconnection).
• Knowledge of BESS control strategies, algorithms, and optimization software.
• Experience with power system analysis (PSS/E, PSCAD) and simulation tools.
• Working knowledge of NEC, IEEE, IBC, NFPA and utility standards.
• Understanding of fire protection requirements (UL9540, UL9540A, NFPA855).
• Communication protocols used in SCADA/EMS (IEC 61850).
• Project management experience including budgeting, scheduling, and risk management.
• Familiarity with EPC workflows and coordination with engineering partners.
• Experience supporting solar, BESS, power, or civil/site projects.

Responsibilities

• Review design and engineering of battery energy storage systems (BESS) ensuring contractual compliance.
• Serve as technical contributor across electrical, civil, structural, SCADA, HV scopes.
• Coordinate with Engineers of Record and third-party partners for scope clarity and timely delivery.
• Coordinate with fire protection engineers and AHJs.
• Develop and review technical specs, drawings, and docs for BESS components.
• Provide technical oversight during procurement and vendor reviews.
• Collaborate with internal teams, vendors, and contractors to design, procure, install, and commission BESS systems.
• Oversee system modeling, simulation, and analysis to optimize performance.
• Provide engineering support during construction including field issue resolution.
