Figma is seeking a Backend Engineer for the Application Platform to help build shared Ruby foundations for REST APIs, asynchronous jobs, and workflow orchestration. You will contribute to a large Ruby codebase powering Figma’s REST APIs and background processing, partnering with product engineers and infrastructure teams to improve velocity and reliability.

We value experts with 5+ years in software engineering, 3+ years on production Ruby systems, and experience designing scalable distributed

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 3+ years building production Ruby systems.
• Experience building large Ruby applications and shared backend codebases serving multiple teams.
• Ability to design reliable distributed systems, APIs, background processing, testing, observability, and operations.

Responsibilities

• Design and evolve shared Ruby frameworks for REST APIs, asynchronous jobs, workflow orchestration, and data access.
• Improve availability, reliability, scalability, and performance of backend systems supporting core features.
• Modernize large Ruby codebases with safe architectural changes, Rails migration, and stronger endpoint abstractions.
