Piper Companies is seeking a Backend Software Engineer to join a technology-focused organization developing scalable networking and infrastructure solutions. The Backend Software Engineer will be responsible for building backend services, designing APIs, and supporting Linux-based systems that leverage virtualization and networking technologies.

Qualifications

• 5-8 years backend software engineering experience.
• Strong programming experience with Python or Go.
• Solid understanding of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, Layer 2 and Layer 3 switching, and routing protocols.
• Experience with Linux systems programming and Linux internals.
• Hands-on experience with virtualization technologies such as QEMU, libvirt, Docker, and/or Kubernetes.
• Experience designing, developing, and maintaining RESTful APIs.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex distributed systems and networking environments.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services utilizing Python or Go.
• Build and support RESTful APIs that enable communication across distributed systems and applications.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to develop and enhance networking-focused software solutions.
• Work within Linux environments to optimize system performance and troubleshoot complex technical issues.
• Develop solutions utilizing virtualization and containerization technologies including QEMU, libvirt, Docker, and Kubernetes.
• Participate in architecture reviews, code reviews, testing, and deployment initiatives.
• Support automation, monitoring, and reliability improvements across backend platforms.
