Gather Health, a Boston-area primary care practice focused on adults 65 and older, is hiring a mid-level Backend Engineer. You will build Python services for Esther, an AI voice agent, handling call timing, patient context, and follow-up tasks.

You’ll join a small engineering team with a distributed setup across Europe and the US, owning features end-to-end. You’ll ship APIs, data models, and workflows, integrate with EHRs, and enable language-aware conversations in English, Spanish, Portuguese,

Qualificações

• Experience shipping and maintaining backend services in production.
• Strong Python skills and experience building HTTP APIs with FastAPI or a similar framework.
• Practical experience with PostgreSQL and data modelling.
• Experience integrating third-party APIs and working with background jobs or queues.
• Good engineering habits: tests, code review, and observable logging/metrics.

Responsabilidades

• Build and extend APIs, data models, and background workflows for patient enrolment, call scheduling, preferences, and follow-up.
• Connect Esther with electronic health record and clinical data platform for relevant patient history.
• Support scheduling, refills, and handoffs with clear visibility into next steps.
• Improve context access and multilingual conversations across care programs.
• Ensure reliability when calls drop, webhooks fail, or external services fail.
• Write tests, review code, and deploy changes across services with attention to patient privacy.
