Job summary

Select Source Solutions is seeking a remote Data Platform Engineer IV to design and maintain cloud-native AWS data platforms for scientific and environmental workloads. You will build pipelines, storage, integrations, APIs, automation, governance, and monitoring in alignment with Senior Architect designs, writing clean, tested code and participating in reviews.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software or data engineering experience, including building production data platforms.
• Experience building pipelines or platforms for scientific, geospatial, environmental, or Earth observation data.
• Hands-on experience with data formats like NetCDF, HDF5, Zarr, GeoTIFF.
• Strong Python and SQL skills with AWS heavy experience.
• Experience with CI/CD and infrastructure as code (IaC).
• Experience delivering solutions in regulated environments (e.g., NIST, FedRAMP).
• Experience building APIs and system integrations.

Responsibilities

• Build cloud-native data platforms on AWS that support scientific and environmental data workloads.
• Develop ingestion and processing pipelines for large scientific datasets, including Earth observation data.
• Implement storage layers for scientific formats and access patterns.
• Develop data governance, metadata management, and lifecycle controls.
• Create integrations with internal/external data sources and third-party services.
• Build APIs and services to expose data and platform capabilities.
• Collaborate with scientists to understand data production and usage needs.
• Automate deployment, testing, and operations using IaC and CI/CD.
• Add monitoring, logging, and alerting for observability and reliability.
• Provide feedback on feasibility and trade-offs during implementation.
• Write clean, tested, well-documented code and participate in code reviews.
