Job summary

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer focused on AWS data engineering to drive a cloud-native data architecture for healthcare data. You will enable SQL-based reporting for business stakeholders and guide the migration of an XML object store to AWS, designing storage formats, partitioning, and metadata management.

The role requires extensive AWS experience, strong SQL skills, and the ability to communicate architecture decisions to non-technical audiences.

Qualifications

• 8+ years’ experience in software or data engineering with a strong AWS focus.
• Experience migrating cloud data platforms in production environments.
• Experience selecting AWS data services to meet reporting needs.
• Experience delivering analytics for non-technical users.
• Hands-on AWS data services expertise and SQL for relational layers.
• Experience with XML-heavy data stores and transforming XML at scale.
• Ability to evaluate AWS data service trade-offs by cost and performance.
• Familiarity with BI tools and AWS analytics services.
• Proficiency with Git and CI/CD tooling.
• IaC with CDK, CloudFormation, or Terraform.

Responsibilities

• Lead modernization of the healthcare data platform on AWS.
• Design scalable AWS data architecture for SQL-based reporting.
• Evaluate AWS data strategies and storage options (S3, Athena, etc.).
• Architect migration of XML data from MSSQL into AWS platform.
• Build and maintain AWS data catalog, schemas, and metadata.
• Optimize query performance and cost across AWS services.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to translate requirements into data models.
• Work with .NET engineers to ensure data flow from EDI pipelines.
• Implement CI/CD pipelines for data infrastructure.
• Apply IaC practices using CDK, CloudFormation, or Terraform.
