Job summary

Harvard University is seeking an Award Specialist within the Financial Administration Department to expertly manage sponsor award notices and ensure compliance across GMAS. You will interpret sponsor terms, set up awards, and resolve high‑impact issues in collaboration with OSP and university leadership.

The role requires deep knowledge of federal requirements, strong analytical skills, and a proactive approach to process improvements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ relevant work experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of sponsored research regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the institutional review, interpretation, and acceptance of complex sponsored award notices, including resolving ambiguous sponsor terms and determining award setup structures.
  • Evaluate non-standard or high-risk award scenarios and advise stakeholders on implications and action.
  • Ensure data integrity and quality assurance for sponsored projects in GMAS and contribute to process improvements.
  • Serve as senior escalation point for complex award management issues and guide staff on regulatory interpretation.
  • Perform audit and reconciliation routines to ensure complete, accurate award data.
  • Lead development and continuous improvement of award management processes and provide advisory support to stakeholders.
