Job summary

Selective Insurance, a long-standing U.S. property and casualty carrier, seeks an Auto Claims Specialist to handle non-litigated and lower-level litigated auto and general liability claims from a remote post in the northeast region.

The role covers coverage analysis, investigation, evaluation, negotiation, and disposition with adherence to company policies and authority limits, including UM/UIM claims where applicable.

Qualifications

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Good time management and organizational abilities.
• Negotiation and claim disposition skills.
• Ability to work independently as a self-starter.
• Moderate proficiency with standard business software.

Responsibilities

• Investigate coverage and liability of claims via phone, letters, and contact with claimants and others.
• Analyze information to evaluate loss and determine contributory negligence; assign experts as needed.
• Process inquiries from insureds and agents; interact with underwriters on claim resolution.
• Evaluate, negotiate, and resolve claims within delegated authority; assign counsel if needed.
• Update claims system to reflect status and calculate negligence chargeability.
• Approve expenses to investigate, process, and handle claims; close claims with releases.
• Attend depositions and trials when necessary; recognize potential fraud for SIU referrals.
