Job summary

Novartis seeks an Associate Director of Semantic and Knowledge Engineering to design, build, and govern enterprise semantic models, ontologies, vocabularies, and knowledge graphs. You will enable AI, analytics, and contextual search across products by embedding reusable semantic capabilities into workflows in the Strategy, Platforms & Transformation domain.

Requires 6+ years in semantic tech with hands-on ontology work, RDF/OWL, SPARQL, and graph databases.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Bioinformatics or related field; advanced degree preferred.
6+ years of progressive experience in semantic technologies, knowledge engineering, metadata management, data architecture, or AI-enabling data platforms.
Hands-on experience designing and maintaining ontologies, taxonomies, vocabularies, semantic models, RDF/OWL, SKOS, SPARQL and graph databases.
Experience building semantic assets enabling AI grounding, RAG/GraphRAG, enterprise search, contextual search, reasoning engines, and interoperability.

Responsibilities

Enterprise semantic modeling and knowledge engineering for consistent meaning across products and AI capabilities.
Build knowledge graphs, metadata services, and semantic APIs to support AI and analytics.
Collaborate with product and platform teams to embed semantic capabilities into workflows and products.
Evaluate emerging semantic technologies and guide architecture evolution.
Mentor junior engineers and promote reusable engineering patterns.
