Job summary

Mercedes-Benz R&D North America is seeking an Associate Corporate Counsel to provide comprehensive legal support across employment, contracts, IP, data privacy, AI, regulatory, and more. The role blends legal expertise with practical business solutions in a fast-paced setting in San Jose, with remote options and hybrid options in other US locations.

This temporary assignment lasts 4-6 months with potential extension.

Qualifications

J.D. degree from an accredited law school with 0–2 years of practice in law firms or in-house legal teams.
Experience in tech, automotive, or engineering-related industries is a plus.
Ability to distill complex legal concepts into actionable, business-focused guidance.

Responsibilities

Provide legal counsel to Engineering & Product teams, integrating legal considerations into design and deployment of new tech.
Negotiate, draft, and review commercial contracts including tech licensing, procurement, NDAs, and development agreements.
Manage IP protection, commercialization, and licensing with internal teams.
Ensure data privacy compliance (GDPR/CCPA) across products and operations.
Advise on employment law matters, investigations, and workplace policies.
Support litigation activities and coordinate with outside counsel.
Address AI and emerging tech legal issues, including risk assessments and regulatory impacts.
Support regulatory and trade compliance, including export controls and cross-border data flows.
