Job summary

61st Street Service Corporation is seeking an Accounts Receivable Specialist I to support ColumbiaDoctors, with a primary remote work arrangement for residents in the Tri-State area. Occasional office visits may be required for training and meetings.

The role focuses on follow-up to collect from insurance companies and third parties, handling denied claims, and communicating with patients or guarantors with a professional demeanor.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or GED certificate required.
• Minimum 6 months experience in physician billing or third party payor environment.
• Strong customer service and patient-focused orientation; able to explain insurance benefits, exclusions, denials, and payer adjudication.
• Experience in Epic or other electronic billing systems preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, diagnosis and procedure coding preferred.
• Previous experience in an academic healthcare setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Research root issue of denial and pursue appeals or follow up to obtain payment.
• Review account history for continuous follow up.
• Prepare correspondence to insurance companies, patients and guarantors as necessary.
• Contact insurance companies/patients/guarantors to obtain status of claims and appeals.
• Document claim issues for review.
• Escalate issues to Supervisor as appropriate.
• Perform demographic and insurance coverage updates on account and bill new insurance as appropriate.
• Perform other duties as required.
