Job summary

Instacart is hiring an Android Engineer to serve as a technical lead in the Pick & Deliver organization. You will shape high-visibility mobile experiences for retailers and shoppers, drive architecture decisions, and own projects from discovery through delivery.

You will partner with Product, Design, Backend, iOS, retailers, and external vendors to deliver reliable, scalable Android solutions while maintaining high standards in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience with Android
• Proficiency in Kotlin and modern Android development practices (Jetpack Compose, Coroutines, RxJava)
• Experience leading complex cross-functional projects from design through launch
• Ability to design maintainable Android architectures and optimize performance
• Strong communication to align product, design, backend, iOS, and external partners

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical direction and execution of Android experiences for retailers and shoppers
• Design, build, test, and maintain high-quality Android apps with Kotlin and Jetpack Compose
• Mentor engineers and establish engineering best practices across teams
• Drive roadmap items for new picking models and platform scale
• Improve performance, reliability, and observability of the Android platform
• Collaborate with Product, Design, Backend, iOS, retailers, and vendors to deliver solutions
