Job summary

Hamilton seeks an Underwriter for Allied Medical to lead healthcare liability underwriting and grow the Allied Medical portfolio via US wholesale brokers. The role emphasizes Excess & Surplus lines through Hamilton Select's platform, with a strong technical reputation in the U.S. market.

Remote option or based in Richmond, VA, with potential travel. Reports to the Allied Medical Division Manager and drives profitability through disciplined underwriting and broker partnerships.

Qualifications

• 3+ years underwriting experience, healthcare and social services classes.
• Ability to support a business strategy focused on niche lines.
• Proven track record of generating new leads and building a portfolio.
• Ability to attract business from existing relationships and develop new ones.
• Appreciation of both subjective and objective underwriting risk considerations.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite healthcare liability insurance for long-term care facilities, social services agencies, drug/alcohol rehab organizations, group homes, adoption and foster care, home health care and medical staffing agencies, among others.
• Contribute to Hamilton’s strategy to grow and diversify the Healthcare portfolio.
• Establish and maintain underwriting standards to ensure profitability.
• Underwrite in accordance with guidelines to maintain profitability.
• Drive the use of technology to improve profitability and ease of doing business with trading partners.
• Originate, grow and develop broker relationships.
• Use negotiation to secure terms.
• Assist in training and mentoring of new employees.
• Other duties as assigned.
