UL Research Institutes is seeking an AI Research Engineer to join the Digital Safety Research Institute (DSRI). This remote role centers on designing, developing, and evaluating AI safety assessment systems for LLMs and NLP safety, advancing evaluation methodologies and scalable capabilities.

You will contribute to rigorous research, collaborate with DSRI researchers and software engineers, and publish findings in conferences and journals while ensuring accuracy and reproducibility of

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in computer science or related field with focus on NLP/LLMs.
• 3 years of relevant experience after Ph.D.

Responsibilities

• Studies incident reports implicating LLMs or NLP algorithms and hypothesize root causes.
• Conducts literature and open-source reviews in NLP or LLM designs, plans, and creates NLP or LLM assessments; applies analytical skills.
• Codes or trains text analytics needed to run NLP or LLM assessments; prepares documentation for technical audiences.
• Publishes assessment research results online and in peer‑reviewed conferences/journals.
• Works closely with team members to ensure processes are accurate and technically sound.
