Job summary

Umba, a pan-African digital bank, is seeking an experienced Back-End / Full-Stack Engineer to design, build, and scale the core services behind financial technology products. You will work primarily in Python (Flask, FastAPI), building secure APIs that move money and handle sensitive data at scale, while collaborating with Data and Product teams to shape architecture.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering in production environments.
• Strong Python and backend frameworks (Flask, FastAPI).
• Intermediate frontend experience and API/distributed systems background.
• Experience with AI coding tools and AI-assisted development workflows.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services with Python.
• Contribute to frontend development (Next.js) and cross-stack work.
• Define technical specs for AI-assisted development workflows.
• Review, test, and validate AI-generated code for quality and security.
• Architect reliable, observable, scalable systems and pipelines.
• Collaborate with Data teams to deliver end-to-end features.
• Improve engineering velocity through tooling and process improvements.
