Job summary

SplitStep Consulting is seeking a Software Engineer to build client applications using AI coding agents. You will write code, review it, and ship production software with direct guidance from the founder. A solid programming foundation and a portfolio of projects are required, with comfort using Claude Code or Cursor a must.

Remote-first, with US-based candidates preferred. Responsibilities include end-to-end feature development, applying AI agents in production, and ensuring code quality

Qualifications

• Solid programming foundation with AI coding agents.
• Portfolio of completed projects demonstrating relevant work.
• Comfort discussing development process and issues identified/resolved.

Responsibilities

• Build features across the stack — interfaces, logic, APIs, and database work with code review guidance from the founder.
• Apply AI coding agents to production code as part of daily development workflow.
• Review AI-generated output for correctness, security, and maintainability before production.
• Work in Git and GitHub with branches, pull requests, and code reviews.
• Write clear documentation to keep projects understandable as they grow.
• Engage in client requirements discussions and translate business needs into working software.
• Communicate clearly about blockers and seek help early.
