Job summary

UPMC is seeking a full-time Actuarial Analyst III to join the Department of Health Economics. This remote role supports medical cost improvement strategies, analyzes cost/utilization, and develops financial outcomes for value-based programs. You may supervise junior analysts and will work from anywhere in the continental US.

The position emphasizes strong communication, critical thinking, and data analytics, with opportunities to pursue actuarial designations through a formal student program.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, statistics, actuarial science, economics or related field.
• 3–5 years of actuarial experience in health insurance, managed care or related consulting.
• Actively pursuing the ASA and/or FSA certification.
• 4+ actuarial examinations passed.
• VEE credits or equivalent in micro/macro economics, corporate finance and applied statistics (preferred).
• Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Strong PC skills including Microsoft Office; data retrieval with SQL/SAS.

Responsibilities

• Produce actuarial and financial models showing projections for value-based programs.
• Analyze healthcare claims cost and utilization trends for projections and savings methods.
• Apply analytical software tools to summarize large healthcare data for insights.
• Forecast and interpret financial results and identify risks and opportunities.
• Develop data-based recommendations with cross-functional teams.
• Produce well-documented actuarial reports and projects.
• Present results and recommendations to leadership.
• Collaborate with other actuaries to ensure high-quality work.
• Build relationships across Actuarial, Analytics, Reimbursement, Clinical, and Finance teams.
• Provide analytical support for ad hoc data analyses.
