Job summary

Gándara Mental Health Center in Springfield, MA is seeking a Residential Counselor I for SHINE Young Adult Housing Program. The role maintains a youth-centered, safe and therapeutic overnight shelter environment for young adults experiencing homelessness.

The Residential Counselor I supports participants in following program rules, obtaining needed services, and addressing emergencies professionally; embodies dignity and rights in care.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• At least one year of experience working with youth preferred.
• Must have valid driver’s license and meet driving history requirements.
• Must have availability of an automobile to transport clients or perform other supportive services as necessary.

Responsibilities

• Attend scheduled clinical and staff meetings and participate in treatment planning and goal setting.
• Maintain client records in standard format and timetables.
• Attend supervisory meetings with Program Manager.
• Maintain progress notes for each shift.
• Promote dignity and protect rights of individuals against abuse or neglect.
• Assist members daily in daily living skills through individual and group training.
• Promote rights of people with developmental disabilities to exercise choice.
• Provide safe responses to emergencies when necessary.
• Provide case management, outreach and advocacy to members.
• Develop strong, supportive relationships with individuals.
• Ensure for individual care, safety, and adherence to safety measures.
