Qualifications

Job description

BluePearl Pet Hospital is hiring experienced Relief Veterinary Technicians to work in our busy Emergency and Critical Care department.


Pay: $20.00 - $40.50 / hour


This pay band is a starting point and depends on experience, licensure, and advancement through our leveling system.


Candidates with VTS credentialing are eligible for compensation commensurate with experience.


We also offer competitive shift differential pay for eligible hours worked during nights and weekends.


As a Relief Emergency Veterinary Technician, you will:


  1. Induce, monitor, and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
  2. Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital, including obtaining vitals such as temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate, and blood pressure.
  3. Perform digital radiography using proper technique, including proper positioning of patients.
  4. Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation.
  5. Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
  6. Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
  7. Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and durations.
  8. Be proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
  9. Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
  10. Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers.
  11. Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.
