Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Savannah, GA is seeking a skilled Relief Veterinary Assistant to pick up deficits on an as-needed basis. The position offers pay of $17.50 - $25.90 per hour plus competitive shift differentials and is eligible for night/weekend premiums.

You will provide nursing care, place IV catheters, monitor vitals, and manage intravenous fluids with various pumps. As a Surgery Veterinary Assistant, you will perform exams, monitor patient responses, and ensure aseptic handling

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to stable patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
• Place peripheral intravenous catheter in cephalic vein.
• Perform physical exam; accurately count heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
• Understand normal vital parameters and alerts doctor when abnormal.
• Be able to set up intravenous fluids.
• Administer subcutaneous fluids.
• Operate all brands of intravenous fluid pumps and can troubleshoot errors.
• Disconnect and connect patients from intravenous fluids aseptically.
• Monitor patient response to fluid therapy including signs of overload.
