Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Savannah, GA is seeking a skilled Relief Veterinary Assistant to pick up deficits on an as-needed basis. The position offers pay of $17.50–$25.90 per hour plus competitive shift differentials and depends on experience and advancement through the competency assessment tool.

Responsibilities include nursing care for stable patients, IV catheter placement, bloodwork of vital signs, fluid therapy, and managing IV fluids with proper aseptic technique.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to stable patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
• Place peripheral intravenous catheter in the cephalic vein.
• Perform physical exam; accurately count heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
• Understand normal vital parameters and alert doctor when abnormal.
• Set up intravenous fluids.
• Administer subcutaneous fluids.
• Operate all brands of intravenous fluid pumps and troubleshoot errors.
• Disconnect and connect patients from intravenous fluids aseptically.
• Monitor patient response to fluid therapy including signs of overload.

Pay: $17.50 – $25.90 per hour + competitive shift differentials.

Pay band is dependent on experience and advancement through our competency assessment tool.

We offer competitive shift differential pay for eligible hours worked for nights and weekends. Shift differentials are based on a 4‑hour minimum. For example:

• Mon – Fri: 6 pm to 8 am = +$3.00 / hr. Shift differential
• Sat & Sun: 8 am to 6 pm = +$3.00 / hr. Shift differential
• Sat & Sun: 6 pm to 8 am = +$4.50 / hr. Shift differential
