Job summary

ALLETE, Inc. seeks an Auxiliary Operator to Control Room to ensure reliable steam production for a large industrial customer. You will start up and shut down generating units, operate mobile equipment, and keep accurate records while maintaining safety and compliance.

The role requires high school graduation and 4+ years’ experience including Control Room Operator duties; a 12-hour rotating shift is required. Competitive hourly pay and opportunity for growth are offered.

Job description

Performs duties varying as an Auxiliary Operator to Control Room on a day-to-day basis to ensure reliable steam production to large industrial customer.

Duties include, but are not limited to: starting up, shutting down, operating generating units (thermal and or hydro), operating mobile equipment, and cleaning station in a cost effective, safe, and efficient manner and within guidelines and operating permit provisions.

May provide leadership, direction, prioritization, and scheduling of weekly, daily, and after hour activities while complying with environmental rules and all other regulatory laws, including MP standards.

May coordinate the use of plant equipment and resources to meet customer requirements while maximizing efficiency within manufacturers' specifications.

Energizes, de-energizes, and isolates line equipment while ensuring the safety of crews and equipment.

Maintains current and accurate files/records for legal and historical purposes.

Communicates effectively between internal staff/external customers, various departments, vendors and the general public required to establish and maintain working relationships.

High school graduate or equivalent

Experience

Over 4 years work experience that includes working or documented training as a Control Room Operator.

Special Requirements

Must be available to work 12-hour rotating shifts.

Regular and consistent attendance is an essential requirement of this position.

Chief Grade "A" State of Minnesota Stationary Engineer License. May be upgraded to Production Coordinator for up to 90 consecutive days when needs exist.

Audiometric and pulmonary function testing.

Completion of front-end loader training required.

This position may be subject to assessment of skills, job match and/or aptitude.

Compensation

The expected hourly compensation for this position is $55.84 .
