Job Description

Job Purpose:

To enhance the reliability, maintainability, and safety of systems, equipment, and processes. The RMS Engineer is responsible for conducting assessments, analyzing data, and providing solutions to improve operational efficiency, reduce downtime, and ensure safety and compliance with aerospace standards.

Working Conditions:

  • Location: Remote with occasional site visits for inspections, assessments, and collaboration with operational teams.
  • Hours: Full-time; some flexibility required to support operations, including possible on-call duties.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safety Engineering:
    • Conduct safety assessments, including hazard analysis and risk assessments, to ensure systems meet regulatory safety standards.
    • Work with safety teams to design and implement safety protocols.
    • Perform root cause analysis (RCA) of safety incidents and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
    • Ensure that safety features are properly integrated into design and maintenance processes.
  • Reliability Engineering:
    • Perform reliability assessments on new and existing systems or equipment to identify potential failure modes and reliability risks.
    • Develop reliability models and simulations to predict performance and identify areas for improvement.
    • Apply reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) strategies to optimize system uptime and performance.
    • Analyze failure data to identify root causes of reliability issues and recommend corrective actions.
    • Conduct failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) and fault tree analysis (FTA) to assess risk and failure impact.
  • Maintainability Engineering:
    • Develop and implement maintenance strategies to improve the maintainability of systems, including predictive, preventive, and corrective maintenance techniques.
    • Analyze maintenance data to optimize maintenance schedules and reduce equipment downtime.
    • Develop maintenance plans and procedures to ensure ease of system repairs and replacements.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting:
    • Collect and analyze data related to system performance, maintenance history, and safety incidents.
    • Prepare detailed reports, presentations, and documentation on reliability, maintainability, and safety performance.
    • Provide actionable insights based on data to improve operational processes and decision-making.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Work closely with design, operations, and maintenance teams to ensure seamless integration of reliability, maintainability, and safety practices.
    • Lead or participate in cross-functional teams for continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Provide training and guidance to other engineers, operators, and maintenance personnel on best practices related to reliability, safety, and maintainability.
Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field. Advanced degrees (Master’s or PhD) may be advantageous.
  • Experience:
    • 10+ years of experience in reliability, maintainability, or safety engineering, ideally in design, aerospace, defense, or energy sectors.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Aircraft and System Functional Hazard Assessments (AFHA/SFHA)
    • Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)
    • Preliminary System Safety Analysis (PSSA)
    • System Safety Analysis and Report (SSA)
    • Zonal Safety Analysis (ZSA)
    • ARP4754, 4761 system development and safety analysis methods
    • Familiarity with FAR Parts 25, 23, 27, 29, STA and foreign and military equivalents
    • Proficiency in reliability modeling and analysis tools (e.g., RCM, FMEA, FTA, Weibull analysis)..
    • Familiarity with maintenance management systems (CMMS).
    • Experience with risk management processes and tools.
    • Strong data analysis skills and proficiency in tools such as Excel, MATLAB, or similar software.
  • Certifications (preferred but not required):
    • Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE) or similar certification.
    • Six Sigma or Lean certifications for process improvement.

  • Problem Solving: Strong problem-solving skills, particularly in diagnosing failures and inefficiencies in equipment and processes.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and precision in evaluating systems and writing reports.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with diverse teams and presenting findings.
  • Teamwork: Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including maintenance, operations, and management.

  • eVTOL, general aviation, military manned and UAV, and commercial transport aircraft
