Job summary

Teragen Energy Corporation is seeking a Reliability & Failure Analysis Engineer to understand why equipment fails and, crucially, how to prevent recurrence. You will connect data across cells, manufacturing, testing, and stack development to build reliability models guiding product decisions for AI data centers and critical infrastructure.

We seek 3–6+ years in failure analysis or reliability engineering with strong data analysis, DFMEA, and lifetime prediction skills.

Qualifications

  • BS or MS degree with 3-6+ years of experience in failure analysis, reliability engineering, or a related field; ceramics, electrochemical, or high-temperature materials experience is a strong plus; exceptional candidates at any level are encouraged to apply.
  • Strong grounding in test design and data analysis, including comfort defining what data is needed to resolve a technical question.
  • Experience with root-cause methodologies and reliability statistics (e.g., Weibull analysis, MTBF/MTTF modeling).
  • Comfort synthesizing across multiple data sources and disciplines rather than owning a single workstream.
  • Rigorous documentation habits a must. This role's value compounds only if findings are captured and reusable.
  • Experience with microscopy and materials characterization (SEM, optical microscopy or other image analysis, ICP, XRD or related techniques) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Own Teragen's reliability knowledge base, connecting failures across cells, fabrication, testing, and stacks into a living database that guides engineering decisions.
  • Lead deep root-cause investigations using microscopy, fractography, cross-sectioning, FMEA, and structured failure analysis whenever failures extend beyond a single discipline.
  • Develop statistical reliability models and lifetime predictions from laboratory and manufacturing data to guide durability milestones and product decisions.
  • Identify recurring failure mechanisms and work with engineering teams to eliminate them through design, material, or process improvements.
  • Help define reliability testing, data collection, and failure documentation standards as the company scales.

About Teragen Energy

Teragen Energy Corporation (“Teragen Energy”) is revolutionizing how AI data centers and broader industries get powered, by building the next generation solid oxide fuel cell platform. Rooted in the technology developed at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and validated by ARPA-E, our mission is to deliver affordable, reliable, clean fuel cell power where it is needed the most to enable power security and flexibility for customers. Founded by technologists, scientists, and energy project developers, we are a fast-paced deep-tech company moving from lab-scale prototypes towards commercial module design - ideal stage for your work to directly shape how power is generated in 21st century, towards terawatt-hour scale.

This Role

We are hiring a Reliability & Failure Analysis Engineer to understand why things fail, how they fail, and, most importantly, how to make sure they never fail that way again. Your work will connect information across cells, manufacturing, testing, and stack development to build the reliability models and engineering knowledge that move Teragen from successful prototypes to dependable commercial products. AI data centers and critical infrastructure need 99.999% reliable power – this role ensure we deliver that reliability.

What You’ll Do
  • Own Teragen's reliability knowledge base, connecting failures across cells, fabrication, testing, and stacks into a living database that guides engineering decisions.
  • Lead deep root-cause investigations using microscopy, fractography, cross-sectioning, FMEA, and structured failure analysis whenever failures extend beyond a single discipline.

  • Identify recurring failure mechanisms and work with engineering teams to eliminate them through design, material, or process improvements.
  • Help define reliability testing, data collection, and failure documentation standards as the company scales.
How We Work

Decisions here are driven by data, not seniority or consensus. We run minimal process and maximum communication. You will be trusted to work autonomously while keeping your work visible, documented, and impactful to the team.

What We’re Looking For
  • BS or MS degree with 3-6+ years of experience in failure analysis, reliability engineering, or a related field; ceramics, electrochemical, or high-temperature materials experience is a strong plus; exceptional candidates at any level are encouraged to apply..

Every failure at Teragen is a chance to learn something durable — literally. If you want to be the person who turns scattered failures into the reliability data that gets us to pilot, this is that role.

Compensation Package
