Job summary

Chevron Phillips Chemical Company seeks an I&E Reliability Engineer for our Sweeny, Texas site. You will lead electrical reliability efforts, ensuring safe, reliable operation of the site's power distribution and control systems while driving continuous improvements across assets.

You will analyze failures, implement predictive maintenance, and coordinate with cross-functional teams on CAPEX projects and safety initiatives to improve uptime and asset integrity.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
• 5 years of engineering experience in a refinery or chemical plant

Responsibilities

• Implements corporate Mechanical Integrity program at the site.
• Collects and analyzes reliability metrics to identify bad actors.
• Participates in the development, design and installation of predictive maintenance programs and technology applications to identify and eliminate defects.
• Coordinates with site stakeholders to establish and maintain proper stocking levels of parts and equipment.
• Executes the identification and elimination of bad actors and the optimization of equipment availability.
• Monitors field inoperable equipment logs for remediation needs.
• Assesses and adjusts specific equipment tolerances and specifications.
• Participates in equipment failure investigations and cause analysis and implement action items to prevent recurrence using Cause Analysis tools.
• Plans and coordinates projects from inception to completion ensuring efficient implementation, timely completion, and compliance to budget.
• Contributes to site efforts to implement Process Safety Management elements at the site.

Introduction

Join CPChem's Technical organization as an I&E Reliability Engineer in Sweeny, Texas, and serve as one of the site's electrical systems and power distribution subject matter experts. In this role, you will provide technical leadership for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the site's electrical distribution system while driving reliability improvements for critical electrical assets across the manufacturing facility.

You will be responsible for maintaining and improving the health of the site's electrical infrastructure, including power distribution systems, switchgear, transformers, protective relays, MCCs, and VFDs, while also supporting the reliability of process-area electrical equipment such as motors and other critical production assets. This position plays a key role in power system studies, electrical safety initiatives, equipment failure investigations, predictive maintenance programs, and long-range asset management strategies.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to influence both day-to-day operational reliability and the long-term electrical asset strategy for a large integrated petrochemical manufacturing facility. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems, leading cross-functional reliability initiatives, and delivering measurable improvements in safety, reliability, and business performance.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates with site stakeholders to establish and maintain the proper stocking levels of parts and equipment required to provide maximum equipment uptime at the lowest possible costs.
• Executes the identification and elimination of bad actors and the optimization of equipment availability.
• Monitors field inoperable equipment logs for remediation needs.
• Assesses and adjusts specific equipment tolerances and specifications.
• Participates in equipment failure investigations and cause analysis and implement action items to prevent recurrence using Cause Analysis tools.
• Plans and coordinates projects from inception to completion ensuring efficient implementation, timely completion, and compliance to budget. Contributes on larger capital projects (CAPEX).
• Contributes to site efforts to implement Process Safety Management elements at the site.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
• 5 years of engineering experience in a refinery or chemical plant

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with medium- and low-voltage power distribution systems, including switchgear, transformers, protective relays, MCCs, and VFDs.
• Experience performing and maintaining short-circuit, protective coordination, arc flash, and load-flow studies.
• Proficiency with ETAP, SKM, or equivalent power system analysis software.
• Experience supporting the reliability and maintenance of industrial electrical equipment, including motors and other critical process-area electrical assets.
• Demonstrated experience leading electrical failure investigations and implementing reliability improvements.
• Experience supporting electrical system modifications and capital projects from design through commissioning and startup.
