Job description

  • Systematically track, analyze, and eliminate electrical equipment bad actors across operating facilities to improve overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) and mean time between failures (MTBF).
  • Evaluate health monitoring data, electrical predictive maintenance (PdM) reports, and operating trends for early detection of asset degradation.
  • Maintain and optimize bad actor lists, tracking resolution progress and calculating return on investment for corrective measures.
2. Root Cause Analysis (RCA) & Problem Solving
  • Lead structured RCA investigations (e.g., 5-Why, Fishbone, TapRooT, FMEA) for major electrical failures, unplanned outages, and near-miss incidents.
  • Focus RCA efforts on critical medium-to-high voltage power systems, including:
  • Medium/High Voltage Motors & Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
  • Metal-clad Switchgear & Protective Relays
  • Air, Oil, and Vacuum Circuit Breakers
  • Develop clear, actionable recommendations based on RCA findings and collaborate with plant operations to ensure timely implementation.
3. Reliability & Maintenance Strategy
  • Partner with facility operations and maintenance teams to refine Preventive Maintenance (PM) and Predictive Maintenance (PdM) programs for critical electrical assets.
  • Drive advanced conditioning technologies such as infrared thermography, partial discharge monitoring, dissolved gas analysis (DGA), oil sampling, and online motor testing.
  • Review single-line diagrams, relay settings, and electrical protection schemes to identify system vulnerabilities.
4. Operational Support & Regional Oversight
  • Serve as the technical subject matter expert (SME) for site electrical engineers and maintenance technicians during complex troubleshooting or turnaround activities.
  • Conduct field site visits and technical audits across facilities within the Western U.S. region.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Experience & Education
  • Education: Bachelor’s or Associate’s preferred, but will accept additional experience in place of a degree.
  • Experience: 5+ years of hands-on experience in a heavy industrial operating environment (e.g., mining, refining, chemical processing, paper & pulp, steel, or power generation).
  • Equipment Knowledge: Demonstrated expertise in medium to high voltage power distribution systems (4.16kV to 230kV+), including motors, switchgear, breakers, transformers, and protection relays.
  • Travel: Willingness and ability to travel up to 25% across the Western region of the United States.
Technical Capabilities & Certifications
  • Strong mastery of formal RCA methodologies and bad actor tracking.
  • Familiarity with industry electrical standards (IEEE, NFPA 70E, NEMA, ANSI).
  • Experience using Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) such as SAP, Maximo, or similar platforms.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or CMRP (Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional) certification is a strong plus.
