Job summary
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs invites applications for a Medical Records Technician (ROI) position within the Health Information Management (HIM) section at VA Illiana Health Care System.
The MRT reviews and processes requests for PHI, providing copies to Veterans or authorized third parties upon proper written requests or authorizations. Responsibilities include validating requests, applying privacy laws, and coordinating with internal/external stakeholders to ensure compliant
Qualifications
- English language proficiency required; non-citizens may be considered only per VA policy
- 1 year of creditable experience demonstrating knowledge of medical terminology and health records
- KSAs include health information technology knowledge, privacy and release of information, and HIPAA compliance
Responsibilities
- Evaluate and process Release of Information requests
- Ensure requests comply with Privacy Act, FOIA, HIPAA
- Interact with veterans and third parties to clarify requests and provide information
- Input requests into ROI tracking systems and maintain documentation
- Provide customer service and educate veterans about information access
