Symetra has an exciting new opportunity to join us as a Reinsurance Senior Financial Reporting Analyst!
About The Role
Symetra’s Finance – Reinsurance Reporting team is looking to add a new Reinsurance Senior Financial Reporting Analyst. In this role, you will focus on reinsurance accounting and financial reporting with an emphasis on life and annuity products. You’ll be responsible for analyzing and reporting on complex reinsurance treaty structures, including coinsurance with funds withheld and modified coinsurance (Modco) arrangements.
This position plays a critical part in delivering accurate and timely financial reports and disclosures, supporting the execution of new reinsurance transactions, and contributing to process improvements within a dynamic and evolving reinsurance environment. The ideal candidate brings strong technical knowledge, analytical capabilities, and a collaborative approach to problem-solving.
What You Will Do
- Research and document technical accounting matters related to reinsurance under GAAP, U.S. Statutory, and Bermuda Statutory frameworks
- Analyze accounting treatments for new and complex transactions, including their impact on financial statements and operational processes
- Coordinate discussions with external auditors on reinsurance accounting topics
- Prepare and review journal entries, general ledger reconciliations, and reporting schedules as part of the reinsurance accounting close process
- Analyze variances and prepare management reports and other critical deliverables
- Demonstrate deep expertise in assigned responsibilities and maintain a strong understanding of related functional areas and departmental processes
- Support the implementation of new reinsurance treaties and related initiatives
- Identify and implement process improvements and operational efficiencies
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Actuarial, Tax, and Legal to evaluate and operationalize new reinsurance arrangements

Compensation
Salary Range: $77,600 - $129,400 plus eligibility for the company annual bonus program.
Who You Are
- High School Diploma is required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA or CPA-eligible preferred
- 3+ years of experience in reinsurance accounting for life and annuity products, ideally with exposure to complex arrangements such as Modco and coinsurance with funds withheld
- Solid understanding of accounting principles for life insurance and annuity products
- Experience preparing and reviewing financial statements and footnote disclosures
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly to various partners, including auditors and senior management
- Proven ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment
- Goal-oriented, highly organized, and committed to delivering high-quality work
- Flexible and dependable, with the ability to adjust to shifting priorities and support critical periods such as quarter-end and year-end close
- Known for a positive attitude, strong sense of ownership, and a touch of humor
- Strong planning, prioritizing, and organizational skills
- CPA, CMA, or other relevant professional designation is a plus
