Job summary

Howden Re in North America is offering an Accounting and Claims internship in Edina, MN, with compensation of $20/hour plus overtime. You will learn reinsurance accounting functions, loss notices, and claims processing while supporting client teams.

You will perform day-to-day tasks like loss calculations, reviewing coverage, processing claims in our systems, and tracking reinsurer settlements, while pursuing a Bachelor’s degree and maintaining a 3.0+ GPA.

Qualifications

• Actively pursuing a Bachelor's degree
• GPA of 3.0+
• Proficient in Excel, Word and PowerPoint
• Legally authorized to work in the US

Responsibilities

• Work with the team to perform all reinsurance accounting functions for selected client accounts and provide backup coverage for other accounts as needed
• Receive initial loss notices, loss status updates and proofs of loss from clients and forward to applicable reinsurers
• Confirm coverage under treaty; review contract wording for retention & limit, LAE treatment, loss reporting requirements, loss attachment basis, etc
• Prepare/review loss calculations to ensure accuracy and compliance with contract terms
• Process claims transactions in accounting and claims system
• Track the status of reinsurer settlements
