Job Description

The Rehabilitation Therapy Technician (RTT) performs moderately complex habilitative and rehabilitative therapy work. The role supports a Registered Therapist, Psychologist, or Vocational/Day Programming Supervisor to provide direct contact instruction/training for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities on treatment plans for the assigned therapeutic specialty. Assigned specialties may include music therapy, therapeutic recreation, dance/movement therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, psychology, or vocational/day programming.

RTT provides direct contact instruction, trains other staff, ensures continuity of treatment plans, and may be required to drive a state vehicle. The position is supervised under moderate independent judgment and general supervision of a therapist or supervisor.

Essential Job Functions

• Attends work regularly and may work specific, rotating schedules or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy.
• Implements treatment plans through hands‑on methods and monitors goals via direct observation.
• Assists in development and evaluation of treatment plans for assigned therapeutic specialty.
• Assists the assigned therapist in conducting functional skills assessments, preparing materials and reviewing prior assessments.
• Schedules, assists with and/or provides staff training to Direct Support Professionals to ensure implementation of treatment objectives when therapists or RTTs are unavailable.
• Monitors DSP implementation, gathers data, and reports to the interdisciplinary team and supervising therapist or supervisor.
• Ensures satisfactory completion of program paperwork to meet applicable standards and procedures.
• Collects data related to treatment plans for accurate assessment of progress.
• Participates in interdisciplinary team processes, providing information on assessment results, intervention responses, and staff training outcomes.
• Provides feedback to the team about individual progress and works with DSPs to maintain connections and assist in treatment plan development.
• Participates in agency disaster response, recovery, or COOP activation as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of relevant therapeutic techniques (e.g., applied behavior analysis, sensory integration).
• Ability to train staff in treatment methods and related areas.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to assist in developing treatment and support plans.
• Ability to develop and maintain data collection systems for assigned therapeutic specialty.
• Proficiency with personal computers and relevant software.
• General knowledge of ICF/IID regulations and state supported living center policies and procedures.
• Ability to meet physical requirements of direct contact staff positions.
• Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with others.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED (preferred).
• At least six months of work experience with people who have intellectual and developmental disabilities or performing therapeutic work.
• Preferred experience in applied behavior analysis, sensory integration, music therapy, therapeutic recreation, dance/movement therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, psychology, or vocational rehabilitation.
• Preferred experience in developing treatment and support plans for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
• Valid Texas driver’s license or ability to obtain it within 90 days of hire.
