Job description

Rehab Therapy Tech IV (Functional Title: Rehab Therapy Tech IV)

Location: Richmond, Texas – 2100 Preston. Salary Range: $3,649.83 – $4,594.50 per month. Shift: Day (first). Travel: Up to 10%. Employment Type: Regular, Full‑time, Nonexempt.

This position is part of the Health & Human Services Commission’s Sheltered Workshop Department, supporting patients with intellectual and developmental disabilities at the Richmond State Supported Living Center. The Rehabilitation Therapy Technician (RTT) provides moderate‑complex habilitative and rehabilitative therapy under the supervision of a Registered Therapist, Psychologist, or Vocational/Day Programming Supervisor.

Responsibilities
  • Attends work on a regular basis; performs duties as assigned, including possible rotating or extended shifts and overtime.
  • Directly implements treatment plans through "hands‑on" methods, monitors goals and objectives, and observes treatment outcomes.
  • Assists in the development and evaluation of treatment plans for the assigned therapeutic specialty (e.g., music therapy, therapeutic recreation, dance/movement therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, psychology, or vocational rehabilitation).
  • Assists therapist or supervisor in conducting functional skills assessments; prepares materials, reviews prior assessments, and performs direct contact observations.
  • Schedules, assists with, and/or provides staff training to Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to ensure continuity of treatment plan objectives during periods when therapists or RTTs are unavailable.
  • Monitors program objectives by DSPs, gathers data, and reports findings to the interdisciplinary team.
  • Ensures completion of paperwork and collection of treatment‑plan data to meet applicable standards and procedures.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary team processes, providing information on functional skills assessments and intervention responses.
  • Provides feedback on individual progress and collaborates with DSPs to maintain treatment connections.
  • Maintains current skills relevant to assigned responsibilities.
  • Assists with disaster response, recovery, or COOP activation as needed, which may require alternate shift patterns or locations.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • At least six months of work experience with individuals who have intellectual and developmental disabilities or with therapeutic work.
  • Experience in applied behavior analysis, sensory integration, music therapy, therapeutic recreation, dance/movement therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, psychology, or vocational rehabilitation preferred.
  • Experience developing treatment and support plans for this population preferred.
  • Valid Texas driver’s license required or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire; out‑of‑state license holders must supply an original certified driving record.
  • Ability to drive a state‑owned vehicle (may be required).
  • Knowledge and skills in relevant therapeutic techniques (e.g., applied behavior analysis, sensory integration).
  • Ability to train staff on treatment methods and related areas.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Capability to develop and maintain data collection systems for the assigned specialty.
  • Proficiency with personal computers and relevant software.
  • General knowledge of ICF/IID regulations and state supported living center policies.
  • Physical capability consistent with direct contact staff positions.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with others.
Additional Requirements
  • Must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre‑employment drug screen, and registry checks (CANRS, Nurse Aide, Medication Aide, Employee Misconduct, LEIE).
  • Males ages 18–25 must register with Selective Service.
