Job summary

LIFE Pittsburgh is seeking a dedicated aide at the Adult Day Health Center to support restorative and rehabilitative care for elderly participants. Under supervision of licensed therapists and the Center Administrator, you will assist with daily activities, documentation, equipment maintenance, and caregiver training across the center and community settings.

Job Summary

Responsible for providing or assisting Participants with direct and indirect restorative or rehabilitative care needs under the direct supervision of a licensed therapist, including functional and instrumental activities of daily living and therapeutic activities as determined by the interdisciplinary team and the individual care plan. Under the direction of the Center Administrator, performs restorative care services for participants at the Adult Day Health Center. Assists in general equipment/inventory maintenance, DME management, and scheduling of rehabilitation, restorative, and home assessment appointments. Assists in executing restorative and/or rehabilitation programs set up under the direction of Occupational/Physical Therapists.

Essential Functions

• Demonstrates and reflects a commitment to the mission and core values of LIFE Pittsburgh to support the elderly in maintaining their dignity and independence in the community.
• Executes restorative programs following the individualized plans developed by licensed Physical or Occupational Therapists to promote optimal function, independence, and community living. Applies ROM, therapeutic exercises, bed mobility, moist heat, ice/cold packs, gait safety, transfer safety, and balance techniques.
• Provides and instructs participants in basic personal care per the prescribed restorative program (e.g., bathing, grooming, toileting, feeding).
• Communicates clearly and concisely with licensed therapists on progress and performance, ensuring adjustments are made based on needs. Provides input and participates in the development and revision of participants’ plan of care as a multidisciplinary team member.
• Collaborates with the activities program to provide input and suggestions on functional‑based activity programs and groups within the center, participating to ensure recommendations are incorporated.
• Assists rehabilitation staff and licensed therapists in treatment sessions when indicated to ensure participant safety and intervention success.
• Instructs family caregivers and caregivers from LP on restorative program performance and provides training or education when indicated for program carryover.
• Ensures detailed and thorough documentation, including records of restorative program interventions and performance, equipment inventory logging, in‑center equipment maintenance and safety checks, and disinfection logs for equipment and DME.
• Maintains an organized and clean rehabilitation department, ensuring in‑center equipment is assessed per protocols and inventory is monitored to ensure a safe environment for LP staff and participants.
• Adjusts communication style effectively to promote clear and positive exchange of information, fostering collaboration and consensus among participants, caregivers, and staff.
• Provides services promptly, exercising tact, patience, and courtesy at all times, and conducts themselves professionally with participants, families, co‑workers, and external contacts.
• Proactively maintains position requirements (e.g., annual TB, bi‑annual physical) and complies with educational requirements (e.g., Fire Safety, Infection Control, Annual Training, Safe Mobility).

Working Conditions

• Works within the LIFE Pittsburgh Adult Day Health Centers (ADHC) and in the community as needed.
• Awareness that working with LIFE Pittsburgh Participants involves potential exposure to unpleasant sights and smells, blood‑borne pathogens, and other communicable diseases; Universal Precautions must be utilized at all times.

• Possesses knowledge of geriatric personal care techniques and terminology.
• Can understand and independently execute trained techniques after completion of training.
• Understands the range of treatment needed by the participants served.
• Can read and understand simple instructions, both verbal and written, and record messages and documents in written and electronic format. Proficiency in e‑mail and other computer‑based programs is required.
• Demonstrates initiative, resourcefulness, discretion, tact, patience, and good judgment.
• Empathetic and compassionate demeanor in caring for the elderly.
• Physical and emotional ability to carry out assigned tasks.
• Demonstrates a professional appearance and maintains a record of excellent attendance.

Education / Experience

• High school diploma or equivalency.
• Minimum of one year of experience with the geriatric population in a hands‑on, direct caregiving capacity.
• Experience working with and relating to the geriatric population and their family members.
