Job description

To lead strategic efforts in advancing in vitro approaches for human health and ecotoxicology testing relevant to the US Environmental Protection Agency. PETA’s Regulatory Toxicology team seeks a solution-oriented scientist with expertise in toxicity testing, passionate about collaboration, communication, and replacing animal testing.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties :
  1. Research, interpret, and recommend on topics related to replacing animal testing required by the US EPA.
  2. Design in vitro studies and interpret data from research collaborations.
  3. Identify collaborators and lead projects promoting non-animal testing approaches.
  4. Engage in scientific discussions with companies and agencies; present at conferences.
  5. Contribute to public comments promoting non-animal methods, including writing and presenting them.
  6. Organize workshops, webinars, and educational activities for scientists.
  7. Publish peer-reviewed articles and technical papers.
  8. Translate scientific findings for lay audiences, including the public, donors, and media.
  9. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
  1. Masters or PhD in toxicology or related field.
  2. At least 5 years of experience at the US EPA.
  3. Support for PETA’s philosophy.
  4. Extensive knowledge of animal and non-animal toxicity tests and regulatory standards.
  5. Expertise in analyzing data from in vitro toxicity tests, including systemic toxicity, carcinogenicity, endocrine disruption, or ecotoxicology.
  6. Familiarity with OECD test guidelines.
  7. Ability to design scientific studies and analyze results.
  8. Effective communication skills with diverse groups and the public.
  9. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask under deadlines.
  10. Excellent research, strategic thinking, writing, and public speaking skills.
  11. Professional appearance and confidentiality.
  12. Willingness to travel and work remotely from an in-home office.
  13. At least 21 years old, with a valid U.S. driver’s license, three years of driving experience, and a good driving record.

The salary range is $95,000 - $120,000 annually, depending on experience and location. Benefits information is available.
