Job summary

Missouri Public Service Commission in Missouri seeks a judge to write orders and preside over adversarial hearings. You will independently manage a docket spanning electric, gas, water, sewer, and steam industries and review extensive pleadings and expert testimony to draft final Commission orders.

The role requires strong legal analysis, precise writing, and the ability to meet demanding deadlines; some in-state travel may be required, and Missouri Bar membership with 5 years in regulatory

Qualifications

  • Must be a member of the Missouri Bar.
  • 5 years of experience in administrative law, regulatory law, or government practice.
  • Excellent legal reasoning and writing skills.

Responsibilities

  • Write orders and preside over adversarial hearings.
  • Written orders will range from routine procedural orders and noncontested final orders, to more complex orders that must be supported by competent and substantial evidence based on the evidentiary hearing record.
  • Independently control a docket of cases from the Electric, Gas, Water, Sewer, and Steam industries.
  • Review extensive pleadings, written expert testimony, briefs, and other case-related documents in the preparation of final Commission orders.
  • Work effectively with other judges, chief judge, general counsel’s office staff and for a five-member Commission.
  • Provide sound legal analysis and well-drafted documents under sometimes demanding deadlines.
  • Position may require some in-state travel.
