Job summary

Xcel Energy offers an internship within the Regulatory Administration team starting Fall 2026. The role supports policy, cost recovery, and rulemaking activities, with responsibilities in researching issues, project management, and improving processes.

The position adapts to hybrid work with in-person days aligned to the team and role. Ideal candidates are current students pursuing degrees in Business, English, Economics, Public Policy, or Environmental fields, able to work full-time during

Qualifications

  • Current student, Junior or higher
  • Enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a degree in Business, English, Economics, Public Policy, Environmental, etc.
  • Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week) or part-time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) and commute to the designated work location in-person, per hybrid policy.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Research, Writing, Financial, Project Management experience/coursework
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel); AI, Adobe Acrobat, SharePoint

This experience will assist the Regulatory Administration team on various policy, cost recovery, and rulemaking proceedings to ensure Public Utilities Commission approval and positive outcomes for the Company and its customers. The experience will enable an intern to project manage and/or support a project(s) that will allow the Company to meet its cost recovery or policy objectives. The successful intern will research, project manage, work on oral and written communications, work on compliance items or reporting, and look for ways to improve processes. This position will start Fall 2026 and work through the school year part time.

Typical intern responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Provide recommendations for leadership if decisions needed
  • Work cross-functionally with business partners across the organization
  • Create high-level process maps of the case management process or other related processes and look for process improvements.

This position is for an immediate opening. This position may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship’s initial term based on the candidate’s successful performance and Xcel Energy’s business needs.

Minimum Requirements

  • Current student, Junior or higher
  • Enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Business, English, Economics, Public Policy, Environmental, etc.

Non-Bargaining

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $18.20 to $24.50 per hour

This position is eligible for the following benefits: Pension, 401(k) plan, Paid time off (PTO), Holidays
