Job summary

The Public Utilities Commission of Nevada (PUCN) in Carson City seeks a Regulatory Accountant who can audit and analyze regulated utilities’ accounting data, develop adjusting entries, and support cost-of-service ratemaking strategies. The role requires strong leadership, independent work ethic, and collaboration with engineers, economists, auditors, and legal staff.

The ideal candidate has a master’s degree (or bachelor’s with utility-regulation experience) and professional credentials

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or closely related field required or equivalent.
• Two years of professional experience with a regulated utility or regulating agency with a related degree.
• CPA, CMA or CFA certification desirable; knowledge of federal corporate taxation helpful.

Responsibilities

• Audit general rate change applications and analyze filings for multiple utilities.
• Review licenses, certificates of public convenience and ownership changes.
• Analyze annual reports and monitor compliance and energy charges.
• Prepare and present written and oral testimony before the Commission; defend testimony.
• Assist in legislative committee testimony and briefings when required.
• Develop expertise in cost-of-service regulation and ratemaking processes.
