Job summary

Cust-O-Fab is seeking an experienced fitter to cut, fit, and tack weld components for heat exchangers, vessels, and towers in our Beaumont, TX shop. You will read blueprints, perform thermal cutting, and ensure dimensional accuracy while maintaining a low fit-up rejection rate.

We require 5+ years in fitting pressure vessels or heat exchangers, strong AutoCAD interpretation, and proficiency with oxy-fuel cutting and Plas-Arc welding. Safety-minded and capable of overtime support are essential.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience fitting pressure vessels or heat exchangers.
  • Ability to read AutoCAD prints for specifications and dimensions.
  • Proficient operation of oxy/fuel cutting torch and Plas-Arc machine.
  • Tack weld per code and weld procedure requirements.
  • Above average math skills and geometry understanding.
  • Self-motivated leader able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be punctual and able to work overtime when required.
  • Safety-minded with strict adherence to PPE.

Responsibilities

  • Fit and assemble metal components of shell & tube heat exchangers, vessels, and towers.
  • Read blueprints and technical drawings to ensure specifications and dimensions are met.
  • Perform thermal cutting using oxyfuel or Plas-Arc equipment and tack weld as required.
  • Maintain less than 5% fit-up rejection rate and complete work on time.
  • Operate welding equipment per code and weld procedure requirements.
  • Work safely in shop environment, using PPE and following safety protocols.

Job description

Fitters are required to be safety minded, highly productive experts who can cut, fit, and tack weld all parts of heat exchangers, vessels, and towers.Wear proper PPE at all times on shop floor and follow all safety protocols and proceduresRead and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to ensure specifications and dimensions are metFit and assemble metal components of shell & tube heat exchangers, pressure vessels and/or towersPerform thermal cutting using an oxyfuel cutting torch and/or a Plas-Arc machinePerform tack weldingMaintain less than a 5% fit up rejection rateComplete assigned work within given time frame and according to specificationsPerform other job responsibilities as assigned, which may include performing basic tasks when such a need arisesKnowledge, skills and abilitiesHigh school diploma or equivalentMust be a highly safety-oriented individualMinimum 5 years’ experience fitting pressure vessels or heat exchangersExtensive knowledge of fitting metal components to set standards and codes in the assembly and manufacturing of various types of pressure vessels and heat exchangersExtensive knowledge and experience of thermal cutting and welding processesAbility to read AutoCAD prints for both required specifications as well as dimensionsAbility to proficiently operate oxy/fuel cutting torch and Plas-Arc machineAbility to tack weld per code and within weld procedure requirementsAbove average Math skills required, as well as an understanding of GeometryAbility to be a self-motivated leader who requires minimal supervision and who can safely execute a plan to make jobs happen on time within the hours givenAbility to be a team player who can work well with others to achieve company goalsAbility to be punctual and dependent with a willingness to work hours outside of a standard schedule when required to achieve a task or complete a projectMust consistently maintain less than a 5% fit up rejection ratePhysical requirementsThis position will be exposed to welding fumes and gases, and dust from grinder: use of PPE imperative.
