This position is in the College of Nursing (CoN) and reportsdirectly to the Director of Entry Level Master’s in Nursing Program(ELMSN). The position combines teaching, scholarship and service.We define teaching as creating environments that facilitate studentlearning and the attainment of expected outcomes at the course andprogram levels. Faculty has ownership for the development,implementation, evaluation and revision of the curricula within theCollege of Nursing which are designed to prepare graduates toprovide nursing care in a dynamic health care environment. Serviceimplies the use of academic and professional expertise to serve theUniversity, the nursing profession and the community. Serviceconsists of meaningful activities that promote the image, missionor strategic priorities of the University, the well-being ofrelevant individuals or groups among the community of interest orthe professional growth of faculty. Scholarship reflects activitiesresulting in the production, reorganization/refinement,dissemination or creation of works that advance knowledge innursing.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Major Areas of responsibilities include but not limitedto:

Teaching (92 %)

• Creates a dynamic, learner-centered environment that uses avariety of teaching methods based on educational theory andevidence-based teaching and clinical practices that support thediverse learning needs of the student population.
• Models reflective and critical thinking and serves as a coachand mentor for students; confers with them on their progress andassists them in the development of learning plans to facilitatesuccessful achievement of course objectives .
• Maintains and enhances competence in subjects beingtaught.
• Confers with colleagues to assure the integrity of the coursesacross programs and the curriculum as a whole.
• Prepares and reviews written examinations, papers, and studentprojects; supervises independent study projects as needed, andevaluates learner performance in both the classroom and clinicalsettings.
• Notifies Course Manager of at-risk students or unusualoccurrences.
• Supervises or teaches clinical rotations as needed in acute,community and laboratory settings as well asinternship/preceptorship courses.
• Documents student progress on appropriate forms .
• Other duties as assigned.

Service (8 %)

• Participate in Faculty Organization meetings.
• Participate in College of Nursing Faculty meetings.
• Participate in University or College committees asneeded.
• Provide service to the profession and the community.
• Participate in University and CoN events as specified inUniversity and CoN attendance expectations.
• Clarify with the student the nursing curriculum andinterpretation of programmatic requirements.
• Provide needed information so students can make the bestacademic decisions for themselves.
• Increase student awareness of educational resourcesavailable.
• Discuss student academic progress and progression towardeducational goals.
• Refer to other institutional and community support services,where appropriate .
• Forward appropriate student information regarding needs andpreferences that could influence policy setting in the CoN andenhance the learning environment.

*** 1722 instructional and 150 service hours comprise a regular,12-month annual faculty appointment.

* (NOTE: Total workload for a regular, 12-month annual facultyappointment is 1872 hours – 1722 teaching and 150 servicehours.)

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements

Education & Experience

• Earned Master’s in nursing required, doctorate in nursing or arelated field from an accredited institution of higher learning,preferred.
• Teaching experience of diverse students at the baccalaureate orhigher degree level, preferred.
• Rank is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
• Unencumbered California registered nurse license or eligiblefor licensure in California, required .
• Experience working with leadership in healthcare and academicinstitutions and community organizations, preferred.

Pay Range: Based on experience up to $108k annually

Samuel Merritt University currently provides base salary ranges forall positions-on job advertisements-in the United States based onlocal requirements. Individual compensation will ultimately bedetermined based on a variety of relevant factors including but-notlimited to qualifications, geographic location, and other relevantskills.
