Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 3+ years of customer service experience.
  • Ability to work onsite at 175 Fore River Parkway, Portland, ME 04102.
  • Ability to work 8- or 10-hour shifts between 7:00am–5:00pm.
  • Flu vaccination is required where applicable.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

Responsibilities

  • Register patients by collecting demographics and insurance information.
  • Verify insurance eligibility and benefits and process referrals.
  • Collect patient co-pays and communicate financial responsibilities.
  • Identify outstanding balances and assist with collections as needed.
  • Train new staff using checklists and ensure accurate data entry.
  • Respond to patient inquiries with compassionate, respectful communication.
  • Generate and review patient data reports and address discrepancies.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of registration requirements across units.
  • Perform daily QA and census audits.

Responsible for providing patient-oriented service in a clinical or front office setting; performs a variety of clerical and administrative duties related to the delivery of patient care, including greeting and checking in patients, answering phones, collecting patient co-pays and insurance payments, processing paperwork, and performing other front office duties as required in a fast-paced, customer-oriented clinical environment.

Our office is located at 175 Fore River Parkway, Portland, ME 04102.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Communicates directly with patients and / or families either in person or on the phone to complete the registration process by collecting patient demographics, health information, and verifying insurance eligibility / benefits
  • Gathers necessary clinical information and processes referrals and pre-authorizes according to insurance plan requirements
  • Verifies insurance coverage, benefits and creates price estimates, reverifications as needed
  • Collects patient co-pays as appropriate and conducts conversations with patients on their out-of-pocket financial obligations
  • Identifies outstanding balances from patient's previous visits and attempts to collect any amount due
  • Training new staff utilizing training checklists
  • Responds to patient and caregivers' inquiries related to routine and sensitive topics always in a compassionate and respectful manner
  • Generates, reviews and analyzes patient data reports and follows up on issues and inconsistencies as necessary
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of specific registration requirements for all areas, including but not limited to: Main Admitting, OP Registration, ED Registration, Maternity, and Rehabilitation units

Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 3+ years of customer service experience such as hospital, office setting, customer service setting, or phone support
  • Ability to work onsite at 175 Fore River Parkway, Portland, ME 04102
  • Ability to work 8 or 10-hour shifts per business need, between the hours of 7:00am - 5:00pm
  • Ability to occasionally work weekends and on-call, per business need
  • Flu vaccination is an essential job function of this role. Candidates located in states that mandate Flu vaccination doses must also comply with those state requirements. UnitedHealth Group will adhere to all federal, state, and local regulations as well as all client requirements and will obtain necessary proof of vaccination, and boosters when applicable, prior to employment to ensure compliance.   • Must be 18 years of age OR older
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1+ years of experience as a medical receptionist
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology
  • Understanding of insurance policies and procedures
  • Ability to perform basic mathematics for financial payments
  • Experience in requesting and processing financial payments
  • Experience in insurance reimbursement and financial verification
  • Experience in a Hospital Patient Registration Department, Physician office or any medical setting
Soft Skills
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and customer service skills
Physical And Work Environment
  • Standing for long periods of time (10 to 12 hours) while using a workstation on wheels and phone/headset

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The hourly pay for this role will range from $16.00 to $29.00 per hour based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
