Job summary

Qualifications

• High School graduate or equivalent.
• One year of healthcare patient accounts or billing experience preferred.
• Proficiency in the use of personal computers and related business software (i.e., Microsoft Word, spreadsheets, etc.)
• Medical terminology background preferred.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Collect hospital accounts receivable across Commercial, Blue Cross, Workers’ Compensation, and other non Medicare/Medicaid payors.
• Submit appeal letters and inquiries to payors and contact patients, physicians’ offices, and third parties for data.
• Collaborate with Insurance, Pre-certification, Registration, Nursing, Medical Records and other hospital staff to ensure full reimbursement.
• Respond to account questions related to billing issues and patient balances, and update account information as needed.
• Review past due accounts for possible referral to outside collections.

Overview

Responsibilities entail the collecting of the hospital’s Commercial, Blue Cross, Workers’ Compensation, and all other non Medicare and Medicaid accounts receivables; which includes, submitting appeal letters and inquires to the appropriate payor, contacting patients, physicians’ offices and other third parties for significant data. Duties also comprise of working closely with Insurance, Pre-certification, Registration, Nursing, Medical Records, and other hospital personnel to ensure that full reimbursement has been obtained. Responding to account questions, such as billing issues, patient balances, and incorrect data, is a major element to daily tasks. Each Patient Accounts Representative Level 1 is assigned specific alphabets and is responsible for updating all patient account information received in the department; as well as reviewing past due accounts for possible referral to outside collections.

Shift: 2:30 PM - 11:00 PM, Rotating Weekends

Requirements

• High School graduate or equivalent.
• One year of Healthcare Patient Accounts or billing experience preferred.
• Proficiency in the use of personal computers and related business software (i.e., Microsoft Word, spreadsheets, etc.)
• Working knowledge of the filing and payment requirements of Commercial, Blue Cross, and other healthcare payors preferred.
• Medical terminology background preferred.
• Must possess full range of body motion to pass basic FIT test for position to include walking, kneeling, standing, pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, reaching and sitting for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds
