Job summary

Mat-Su Regional Medical Center in Palmer, AK is seeking a PRN Registrar to support the Admitting department. The role handles patient intake, demographic and insurance data capture, scheduling, and authorizations, delivering courteous service.

As-needed shifts vary with department needs, and the registrar ensures accurate records, timely pre-registration, and clear communication with patients and providers, while maintaining confidentiality and compliance.

Qualifications

  • Post secondary education or training in medical office administration or healthcare administration preferred
  • 0-2 years of experience in a healthcare setting including patient registration, medical office scheduling, or front desk/admissions required
  • 0-2 years of experience in a customer service role preferred

Responsibilities

  • Interacts with patients and their families to address questions and provide courteous, timely assistance.
  • Regulates schedules based on procedure requirements, physician availability, and staffing needs.
  • Schedules patient procedures as required and pre-registers scheduled patients by obtaining accurate demographic information.
  • Verifies insurance eligibility using designated applications, captures correct health insurance details, and secures necessary authorizations and verifications for services.
  • Collects and records patient financial responsibility estimates as applicable.
  • Communicates operative reports daily to appropriate physician offices.
  • Compiles and organizes registration documentation to ensure completion of patient medical records.
  • Collects patient co-pays or deductibles when applicable and informs patients of financial obligations.
  • Assists patients with understanding insurance requirements and assists with resolving insurance-related questions.
  • Carefully documents on forms if the patient is unable to sign the consent authorization forms, or why a family member signs the forms and has nursing sign off if the patient is unable to sign.
  • Places an armband on each patient before the patient leaves the department to ensure proper identification of the patient throughout their stay.
  • Answers and returns phone calls, addressing questions with professionalism and courtesy.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.

Job Summary

The Registrar supports patient care by accurately capturing and verifying demographic and insurance information through both in-person and telephone interactions. This role ensures a seamless registration process by scheduling procedures, securing necessary authorizations, and maintaining complete and organized patient records, all while providing exceptional customer service.
