Job summary

Paws & Claws Animal Hospital in Wilmington, NC seeks a registered veterinary technician to join our full-service practice serving cats, dogs, exotics and local wildlife. You will help with triage, lab work, imaging and client communication to ensure top-quality care.

The role involves anesthesia monitoring, surgical assistance and maintaining smooth hospital flow; weekend availability is preferred. We offer ongoing training, competitive compensation and a supportive team environment.

Qualifications

  • A registered veterinary technician (RVT) or eligible.
  • High work ethic and positive attitude as a team member.
  • Ability to arrive on-time and ready to work.
  • Weekend availability (Saturday).
  • Excellent customer service and precise communication.
  • Ability to interpret medical records and client history.
  • Knowledge in preventative care, surgical procedures and hospital flow.
  • Ability to restrain pets in a low-stress, safe manner.
  • Proficient in collecting blood, urine, fecal, and skin samples.
  • Proficient in setting up and processing lab tests.
  • Proficient in radiograph positioning; dental radiographs a plus.
  • Proficient in anesthesia and surgical monitoring.
  • Self-starter with desire to advance knowledge and skills.
  • Receives constructive feedback to maintain hospital efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Animal restraint, triage of incoming patients, collection and analysis of lab samples.
  • Diagnostic imaging, nursing care of medical and hospitalized cases.
  • Administration of medications and communication of treatment plans with clients.
  • Surgical preparation and assistance, anesthesia management.
  • Work within a team to maintain hospital efficiency and patient flow.

Paws & Claws Animal Hospital is a full-service veterinary clinic located in Wilmington, NC that cares for cats and dogs, as well as all kinds of exotic animals and local injured wildlife. The veterinarians at Paws & Claws Animal Hospital, Dr. Sam Smith, Dr. Stephen Anderson, Dr. Kelsey Weingartner, and Dr. Katie Alewel all have a combined total of more than four decades of veterinary medical experience, and they have all the knowledge and expertise necessary to give your precious pets the quality medical care they need and deserve! Whether it is your dog, cat, bird, reptile or small mammal that needs us, we will take special care to make sure that your pet’s visit is both comforting and effective. We also providehigh-class pet boarding facilities for when you are on vacation and need trustworthy care for your pet.

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

Animal restraint, triage of incoming patients, collection and analysis of lab samples, diagnostic imaging, management and nursing care of medical and hospitalized cases with varying degrees of stability, administration of medications, effective communication of treatment plans with clients, surgical preparation and assistance, and anesthetic management.

Must be able to withstand unpleasant odors and noises. May be exposed to bites, scratches, animal waste and potentially contagious diseases.

Qualifications
  • A registered veterinary technician, 1+ years experience preferred but not required
  • A high work ethic and positive attitude team member
  • Ability to arrive on-time and ready to work
  • Saturday availability
  • Exceptional customer service skills and ability to communicate precisely
  • Interpret medical records and record client history accurately
  • Knowledge in preventative care, surgical procedures, and hospital flow
  • Ability to restrain pets in a low-stress and safe manner
  • Proficient in sample collection to include blood samples, urine, fecal, and skin
  • Ability to properly set-up and process laboratory samples and tests
  • Proficient in positioning and capturing radiographs, positioning for dental radiographs are a plus
  • Proficient in anesthesia and surgical monitoring
  • A self-starter with the desire to continue to advance one’s knowledge and skillset
  • Ability to receive in a professional manner constructive feedback to maintain hospital efficiency
