Job summary

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent and up to one year of basic technical training in allied health science and no previous experience plus three months or less of on-the-job training and orientation.
  • Certification: Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) Certification

Responsibilities

  • Receives requests for procedures and arranges for patient testing by ensuring all necessary supplies and equipment are available to perform requested test.
  • Interviews patients to gather and record pertinent personal and medical information and performs physical examination including vital signs and limb assessment.
  • Explains test procedures to patients and/or family members to allay fears and elicit cooperation; assists patients in preparing for tests.
  • Determines appropriate positioning of patients and equipment to obtain graphic responses and assists with patient handling.
  • Operates specialized equipment to conduct non-invasive vascular tests.
  • Observes patients during procedures and notifies physicians or nursing staff of irregularities.

Description

Position Purpose:

Trinity Health Of New England Medical Group is looking for a Registered Vascular Specialist to join our Vascular Surgery office. The Vascular Specialist conducts noninvasive vascular tests in order to provide data used by physicians in diagnosis and treatment of arterial and venous disorders. In doing so, sets up equipment, gathers pertinent information from patients, explains test procedures to patients, and operates equipment. Observes patients during procedures and alerts supervisor, physicians, and/or nursing personnel to abnormalities.

What You Will Do
  • Receives requests for procedures and arranges for patient testing by ensuring all necessary supplies and equipment are available to perform requested test.
  • Interviews patients in order to gather and record pertinent personal and medical information, and performs physical examination of patients including obtaining blood pressure, assessing peripheral pulse by (manual) palpitation and (instrument) doppler auscultation, and inspecting color, temperature, and overall integrity of limbs.
  • Explains test procedure(s) to patients and/or family members to allay fears and elicit cooperation. Instructs and/or assists patients in preparing for test procedures.
  • Determines appropriate positioning of patients and equipment in order to obtain graphic responses, and lifts and positions patients according to diagnostic procedure specified.
  • Operates a variety of specialized equipment including ocularphlethsysmograph, carotid phonoangiogram, pulse volume recorder, and impedance phlethsymograph to conduct non-invasive vascular tests.
  • Observes patients during procedures and notifies physicians and/or appropriate nursing personnel of any irregularities.
