Job summary

Hocking Valley Community Hospital in Logan, OH is seeking a Pharmacist to perform clinical and professional pharmaceutical work in the compounding and dispensing of drugs and IV supplies under the direction of the Pharmacy Manager.

This full-time role requires 80 hours per pay, 1st shift 7:30 AM–6:00 PM with on-call and Saturday coverage. The ideal candidate will hold a PharmD, Ohio license, and hospital pharmacy experience is preferred.

Qualifications

  • PharmD degree from an accredited college of pharmacy.
  • One year hospital pharmacy experience preferred.
  • Current Ohio Pharmacist license to practice.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares, fills, and compounds drug and IV orders.
  • Maintains narcotics inventory and related records.
  • Supervises and trains intern-pharmacists.
  • Fills bulk IVs and chemotherapy preparations.
  • Responds to questions and dispenses drug information.
  • Promotes the Impressions Program with patients, visitors, and staff.

JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Pharmacy Manager, performs clinical and professional pharmaceutical work in the compounding and dispensing of drugs and IV supplies.

80 hours per pay

1st shift, 7:30 AM - 6 PM

On call and Saturday coverage

JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • PharmD degree in Pharmacy from an accredited college of pharmacy.
  • One (1) year of previous hospital pharmacy experience preferred.

Current Pharmacist license to practice in the state of Ohio.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Prepares, fills, and compounds drug and IV orders by physicians and other authorized personnel.
  • Stores and preserves biologicals, vaccines, and serums.
  • Checks incoming shipments and arranges for their storage.
  • Maintains narcotic inventory and other records such as inventory, prescriptions, tax-free alcohol, and quality assurance.
  • Supervises and trains intern-pharmacists.
  • Participates in in-service training.
  • Charges patients' medicines.
  • Fills bulk IVs and IV piggyback solutions and chemotherapy.
  • Is responsible for drug distributions on the floors, outdated drugs, and running the pharmacy cart.
  • Is available to other hospital personnel and the medical staff to answer questions and dispense drug information.
  • Promotes the "Impressions" Program in all aspects of work with patients, visitors, and staff.

Working Conditions and Physical Environment
  • Works in a patient care setting where there is potential exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious materials; and electrical, fire, chemical, physical contact and equipment hazards.
  • Fast-paced setting with rapid patient turnover.
  • High patient traffic.
  • Close-quartered and shared work space.
  • Sufficient mobility to negotiate physical plant.
  • Strength and endurance sufficient enough to perform physically for long periods of time without sitting (four to eight hours). May include: walking; lifting 25-50lbs with or without assistance; bending; twisting; standing; sitting; reaching; stair-climbing and descending.
  • Physical dexterity and psychomotor skills to respond adequately and appropriately to routine and emergency patient care needs in an ambulatory setting.
  • Visual and auditory capabilities sufficient to read information and respond to patient care needs.
  • Ability to work in a computerized environment that includes prolonged sitting and use of keyboard, mouse, and monitor.
  • Cognitive ability to accurately observe, analyze, and interpret general and technical data both verbal and written to accurately communicate this information.
