Job description

Summary:

Responsible for the pulmonary care of critical, non-critical, and chronically ill adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients under the supervision of a physician. Performs patient assessments and implements respiratory care plans. Executes various technical and diagnostic respiratory therapy procedures across hospital departments.

Responsibilities:

1. Meet expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
2. Include, but are not limited to:

• Respond to emergencies (Code Blue and White);
• Manage airways, including nasotracheal & endotracheal suctioning;
• Administer aerosolized medications;
• Manage ventilators (setup and operation);
• Perform oral hygiene care;
• Place and maintain airway retaining devices;
• Manage airway support devices such as BiPAP and CPAP;
• Administer oxygen and monitor therapeutic effectiveness;
• Analyze chest X-rays;
• Collect and analyze blood gases;
• Interpret EKGs;
• Ensure accurate and complete documentation;
• Clean and restock equipment and supplies as needed;
• Participate in CAP and JC surveys.

May serve as Shift Leader or Team Leader.

Advanced practice skills may include:

• Therapeutic gas management (including INO and HeO2);
• Pulmonary Function Testing;
• Assist with bronchoscopy;
• Hemodynamic monitoring;
• Waveform analysis;
• Nocturnal SpO2 evaluation (Desaturation Studies);
• Polysomnography;
• Transport duties.

Job Requirements:

Experience: 1-3 years of experience preferred.

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications:

• RT or RCP License in the state of employment required;
• BLS certification required;
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by NBRC required.
