Under the direction of the Director of Cardiology and Respiratory Services, provides services to inpatients and outpatients as directed by the medical staff at Central Vermont Medical Center. Functions within the scope of practice of the Respiratory Therapy Department and hospital policies. Serves as a resource to nursing staff and physicians in caring for patients with respiratory issues. Participates in hospital-wide quality management activities and assumes leadership responsibilities at the request of the Director of Respiratory Therapy.
Graduate of an associate degree program in respiratory therapy, supported or accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care or the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. Must have passed the Registry exam as a Registered Respiratory Therapist as defined by the National Board of Respiratory Care. Candidates with a Certified Respiratory Technician credential who are eligible to take the Registry exam may be hired with the expectation of passing within one year. Failure to pass within this period results in reclassification to a Certified Respiratory Care Practitioner. Must hold a current Respiratory Care Practitioner license issued by Vermont; a temporary license may be issued.
9 to 12 months of on-the-job performance to achieve proficiency. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required within 6 months of hire.
