Job summary

Children's Health in Dallas is seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist (Critical Care) to join the Respiratory department on the Dallas Campus. This on-site role focuses on direct patient care in critical care settings, with a night shift schedule.

You will work within a multidisciplinary team including families to deliver developmentally appropriate care. The incumbent will perform respiratory care procedures in ICU/ED settings, document care, and participate in team rounds.

Qualifications

  • Two-year Associate's degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Four-year Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  • RRT certification and Texas licensure required upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct patient care including mechanical ventilation, aerosol therapy, pulmonary hygiene, suctioning, oxygen therapy.
  • Documents patient status and interventions clearly to health records.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary treatment team including family in care delivery.
  • Preceptor for novice therapists.

Summary

The RCP performs the functions of a respiratory care practitioner in direct care. This position utilizes the respiratory care process in the delivery of developmentally appropriate care and works effectively with members of the health care team, including the family in the provision of care to patients. The incumbent performs the functions of a respiratory care practitioner in direct care and utilizes the respiratory care process in the delivery of developmentally appropriate care. Critical care settings are defined as intensive care units and/or emergency department.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates competence in professional practice:
  • Utilizes established standards of evidence based care to guide practice Provides direct patient care including but not limited to: mechanical ventilation, aerosol therapy, pulmonary hygiene, suctioning, oxygen therapy, inhaled gases Documents patient status, patient response, and respiratory practitioner interventions accurately and clearly Provides and reinforces health teaching with patients and families Participates in multidisciplinary treatment team Preceptor for novice therapists
  • Utilizes available resources to impact patient care and solve practice problems
Work Experience
  • At least 2 years job related experience preferred
EDUCATION
  • Two-year Associate's degree or equivalent experience required
  • Four-year Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers as required by CP 1.20 Life Support Course Requirements Upon Hire required
  • RRT recognized by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) and active Texas license Upon Hire required
  • NRP (Plano and NICU core) 180 Days required
  • PALS certification (excluding DPMSC Pulmonary Dept.) 180 Days required
  • RRT-NPS preferred
