Job summary

Johnston-Willis Hospital in Richmond, VA, is seeking a Respiratory Therapist to guide patients through routine care and critical moments, performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures across care settings with access to advanced respiratory technology and mentorship from RT leaders.

You will manage ventilation and airways, deliver evidence-based therapy, educate patients and families, and collaborate with physicians and nurses, while maintaining equipment and following infection prevention

Qualifications

  • BLS must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
  • NBRC-CRT or RRT/RCP-State credentials or related degree required.

Responsibilities

  • Assess respiratory status through focused exams, breath sounds analysis and airway patency checks.
  • Deliver evidence-based therapy including oxygen, aerosols and airway clearance techniques.
  • Manage ventilation and airways, including invasive and noninvasive support.
  • Educate patients and families; collaborate with physicians and nurses; support births when needed.
  • Maintain and sanitize equipment; ensure readiness and infection-prevention standards.

Job Summary and Qualifications

As a Respiratory Therapist,you’llplay an essential role in guiding patients through both routine care and critical moments.You’llperform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures while managing invasive and noninvasive ventilation across a variety of care settings.You’llhave access to advanced respiratory technology, mentorship from experienced RT leaders, and the support of a dependable, collaborative team that will set you up for success and ongoing professional growth. Your role will include:

  • Assessing respiratory statusby performing focused exams, interpreting breath sounds and airway patency, anddeterminingthe need for respiratory interventions.
  • Deliveringevidence-based therapyby providing oxygen support, aerosolized medications, airway clearance techniques, and other treatments across emergency, critical care, and acute settings.
  • Managing ventilation and airwaysbyassistingwith artificial airway placement,initiatingand adjusting invasive and noninvasive ventilation,monitoringpatientresponses, and responding quickly to clinical changes or emergencies.
  • Supporting patients and the care teamby educating patients and families, serving as a clinical resource, partnering with physicians and nurses, and helping stabilize newborns during deliveries when needed.
  • Maintainingequipment and safetyby setting up,operating, and cleaning respiratory equipment; ensuring readiness and preventive maintenance; transporting ventilated patients safely; and following all infection-prevention standards.
What qualifications you will need:
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
  • (NBRC-CRT) Certified Respiratory Therapist, or (RRT/RCP-State) Respiratory Therapist/Practitioner, or Associate Degree, or Vocational School Graduate
