Job description

OMS Field Services is seeking a Registered Professional Forester(s) to join our team for our clients' Vegetation Management program. This role involves coordinating with property owners and vegetation management contractors regarding work schedules, obtaining necessary permits from public agencies, pre-inspecting sites, auditing completed work, and documenting activities for the client’s vegetation management program.

Business conduct must align with OMS policies and procedures, supporting the goals of OMS and our clients.

Location: North Valley Region and other select regions in Northern California

Essential Functions:
  1. Perform duties related to emergency response as requested by the Client Representative, adhering to all safety regulations, laws, and labor agreements.
  2. Provide the client with copies of all permits obtained; evaluate tree value, volume, and risk in hazard tree removal projects involving valuable sawlogs.
  3. Offer professional advice on timberland management to ensure lands produce at their optimal potential.
  4. Inspect vegetation hazards along specified electric line sections and assess work required by vegetation management contractors.
  5. Secure property owner permissions prior to tree removal, and inform the client if permissions or permits cannot be obtained.
  6. Supervise tree replacement and seedling planting activities, ensuring compliance with ISA standards.
  7. Audit ongoing and completed vegetation management jobs for compliance with standards and job requirements.
  8. Maintain communication with local client personnel and public agencies such as CALTRANS, CALFIRE, USFS, and BLM.
  9. Address customer complaints promptly.
  10. Perform emergency or storm-related tree work within 24 hours if required, ensuring availability of labor, materials, and protective clothing.
  11. Assist in planning and organizing timber harvests, including completing necessary forms and permits for CAL FIRE.
  12. Conduct pre-inspections for THP approval, mark timber according to specifications, and monitor logging contractor compliance.
  13. Perform timber inventory and appraisal as directed.
  14. Participate in OMS H&S programs and complete required training.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned by OMS or the client.
Qualifications:
  • Registered as a professional forester in California in good standing.
  • At least two years of experience in hazard tree removal along utility rights of way.
  • Knowledge of vegetation management practices, arboricultural techniques, and government agency requirements.
  • Possession of a valid Class C driver’s license, with a satisfactory driving record, and participation in the EPN program.
  • Ability to pass background checks, drug screening, and a physical exam.
  • Approval by the Client Representative.
Working Conditions:

Work involves outdoor and indoor environments, exposure to various weather conditions, and working on uneven terrain. Physical demands include handling objects, standing, walking, and occasional lifting up to 25 pounds. Vision and focus skills are required for detailed tasks. The workday typically lasts 8 hours or more.
