Per Diem employment with flexible 6:00 AM–2:30 PM, 2:00 PM–10:30 PM, and 10:00 PM–6:30 AM shifts. Starting hourly wage: $51.53, with eligible full retirement benefits and no telework option.

Qualifications

• Active authorization to practice as a Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania.
• All employees possessing an active temporary practice permit must obtain licensure as a Registered Nurse within one year.
• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
• You must pass a background investigation and meet CJIS compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

• Deliver vital sign checks, medication administration, treatments, and restorative techniques.
• Assist inmates with daily living activities and provide health education and counseling.
• Perform assessments and administer first aid, CPR, or AED during urgent situations.
• Maintain accurate electronic health records and prepare reports for transfers or releases.
• Share shift updates and communicate key information to staff and supervisors.
• Sterilize instruments and maintain adequate inventory of medical supplies.

This position focuses on providing essential nursing care to individuals with a wide range of medical needs. The work supports the health and safety of the inmate population while ensuring high quality clinical services.

As a Registered PRN Nurse, you will perform the following duties:

• Nursing Care: Deliver vital sign checks, medication administration, treatments, and restorative techniques
• Patient Support: Assist inmates with daily living activities and provide health education and counseling
• Emergency Response: Perform assessments and administer first aid, CPR, or AED during urgent situations
• Record Management: Maintain accurate electronic health records and prepare reports for transfers or releases
• Team Communication: Share shift updates and communicate key information to staff and supervisors
• Supply Oversight: Sterilize instruments and maintain adequate inventory of medical supplies

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Per Diem employment.
• Work Hours: up to 48 hours bi-weekly. Every other weekend, One major holiday and one minor holiday per year.
• Per Diem employees work all shifts as needed (shifts vary).
  • 1st shift (6:00 AM - 2:30 PM)
  • 2nd shift (2:00 PM - 10:30 PM)
  • 3rd shift (10:00 PM - 6:30 AM)
• The PRN Nurse works an on-call intermittent basis in a State Correctional Institution.
• This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Please Note: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting hourly salary of $51.53.

QUALIFICATIONS

Necessary Special Requirements:

• This position requires active authorization to practice as a Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania.
• All employees possessing an active temporary practice permit must obtain licensure as a Registered Nurse within the one (1) year period defined by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.

Other Requirements:

• PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
• If you are within 60 days of graduating from a school of nursing approved by the State Board of Nursing, you are eligible to apply for this job posting. At the time of appointment to a position, you must show proof of possession of a current, valid PA temporary practice permit or PA Registered Nurse license.
• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
